What to Wear and other Information.
What to Wear for Beach Portraits
- Light but stiff fabrics: Choose breathable fabrics like cotton, linen, keep cool. Rayon or silk clings to your body (your legs and upper area if you know what I mean!) Its better to have stiff fabrics like cotton and linen.
- Bright Colors: Opt for vibrant colors that pop against the blue of the ocean or the sand, such as turquoise, coral, or sunny yellow and yes the traditional white.
- Soft Patterns: Light patterns like florals or subtle stripes can add visual interest without being overwhelming.
- Swimwear: If the shoot is casual, consider stylish swimwear or beach cover-ups that reflect your personality. Bring a fun hat!
- Layering: Light layers, such as a beach shawl or a light cardigan, can add texture and variety to your photos.
- Footwear: Opt for casual sandals, flip-flops, or go barefoot for a relaxed look.
- Accessories: Hats, sunglasses, and jewelry can enhance your look—just keep it minimal for a natural feel.
- Avoid Logos: Steer clear of clothing with large logos or text that might distract from your face and the backdrop.
- Coordinate but Don't Match: If taking pictures with a group, coordinate colors and styles without being overly matchy.
- Hair and Makeup: Consider a light, natural look that can withstand the beach's humidity and wind. Simple and effortless is key. Hair spray on windy days is a must! We will shoot with you facing the wind so we aren't fighting hair in your face! NO LOTION ON PORTRAIT DAY! the sand loves to stick to lotion!
What do we do if it rains?
We highly recommend planning your family beach session at the start of your stay here on Hilton Head. That way, we’ll have more flexibility to reschedule if the weather doesn’t cooperate.
Rain is a common occurrence here on the Island, but don’t worry, we’ll always show up and wait it out. And if we do, there’s a good chance we’ll catch a rainbow!
If we have a complete rainout, we’ll make sure to prioritize your family’s session and get it in before you leave.
